AOSVN Admission Policies
Admissions Policy
Admission to the Associate of Occupational Science in Vocational Nursing (AOSVN) program is based on the successful completion of all published admission requirements and the availability of seats within an approved cohort.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must:
-
- Submit a completed application for admission.
- Complete the Next Generation Accuplacer examination and achieve the minimum required scores established by the program:
- Reading Comprehension: 232
- Arithmetic: 212
- Submit an official transcript of record demonstrating possession of a high school diploma, GED, or an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Successfully complete all required background screening processes.
- Complete the Vocational Nursing Program Readiness Survey.
- If requesting transfer of credit, submit the Transfer of Credit Request form and related documentation for evaluation of possible transfer credit.
Accuplacer Examination Attempts
Applicants may take each required Accuplacer examination up to three (3) times initially, with a minimum of 48 hours between attempts.
If the required score is not achieved after three attempts, the applicant must wait two (2) months before retaking the failed examination(s). Following the waiting period, the applicant may take the failed examination(s) up to three (3) additional times.
If the required score is still not achieved, the applicant must wait one (1) calendar year before retaking all Accuplacer examinations required for admission to the program. Following the one-year waiting period, the applicant may take each required examination up to three (3) additional times.
Applicants who do not achieve the required scores after these attempts will no longer be eligible to take the Accuplacer examination for admission to a program at the university.
Vocational Nursing Program Readiness Survey
Applicants who meet the admission requirements will complete a Vocational Nursing Program Readiness Survey designed to evaluate characteristics associated with success in vocational nursing education, including academic preparedness, professionalism, communication, time management, motivation, and understanding of the nursing profession.
The Survey will be reviewed by the Program Director or program designee using a standardized program rubric. As part of the admissions review process, the Program Director may elect to conduct an interview with an applicant when additional information or clarification is needed to assess readiness for success in the program.
Admission Selection
Admission offers are made based on the successful completion of all admission requirements and seat availability within an approved cohort.
Qualified applicants will be offered admission in the order in which all admission requirements are successfully completed. When multiple applicants complete all admission requirements on the same date and seats are limited, priority will be determined based on the date the application for admission was received.
When the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of available seats and alternate positions, applicants who cannot be accommodated in the current cohort will be offered placement in the next available cohort, subject to continued satisfaction of admission requirements and program policies.
In the event that multiple applicants have equivalent readiness assessment results and no other objective factor distinguishes placement priority, the Program Director or program designee will make the final determination regarding cohort placement.
Alternate Status
No more than ten percent (10%) of the authorized enrollment for a cohort may be admitted under Alternate Status.
Students admitted under Alternate Status may participate in the program until the first scheduled clinical experience. Final placement into the cohort will be confirmed by the Program Director. Students who remain in Alternate Status will receive priority consideration for placement in the next available cohort.
Admission Notification
Applicants will be notified in writing regarding their admission status. Applicants who decline admission more than two times may be required to reapply and satisfy all current admission requirements.
Re-Enrollment and Track Change Policy
-
After two (2) attempts, the student is no longer eligible to re-enroll or track change.
- All re-enrollment and track change requests are subject to space availability and require approval from program leadership.
- To be eligible for re-enrollment or track change, the student must meet all re-enrollment or track change requirements. In some cases, the student may be required to repeat previously completed coursework to maintain alignment with current curriculum standards and clinical readiness.
- The student is responsible for contacting the Financial Aid Office to understand any financial implications of re-enrollment or track change.
- Re-enrollment and track change may result in a delay of the student’s anticipated graduation date.
